Challenge
Mastermyne was undertaking a significant business turnaround, with a renewed focus on safety, operational discipline and financial performance. As part of that transformation, Ruth Ey spearheaded the Elevating Safety Performance program alongside CEO Jeff Whiteman.
The challenge was significant: strengthen consistent, positive safety behaviours across 15 mining projects, operating within different client systems, environments and expectations.
The goal was helping leaders understand and influence the human behaviours behind safety performance.
Solution
Tenaxiti supported Ruth, Jeff and the Mastermyne team to strengthen the leadership and behavioural component of the program.
Using behavioural science, Anthony Gibbs worked with project leaders to explore why people make the decisions they do, what shapes behaviour in operational environments, and how leadership actions strengthen or undermine safe performance.
The sessions translated the science into practical tools, conversations and memorable challenges leaders could take back into their projects.
Impact
Mastermyne has since delivered significant improvement in safety performance.
In FY25, Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate reduced from 9.85 to 5.09, while the business achieved zero life-changing injuries.
This occurred as part of a much broader transformation led by Jeff, Ruth and the MyneSight leadership team, which also delivered substantial improvements in operational and financial performance.
